What Counts as Evidence?

In a famous lecture Clifford suggested that it was wrong to belief anything that is not supported by sufficient belief. His chief target in this lecture was religious belief because, as far as he was concerned, such belief is a good example of non-evidential belief. Is Clifford right? And if he isn't, what, in any case might count as evidence for religious belief? The attached chapter discusses these questions.
