Must there be a First Cause?

A string of causes cannot go backwards for ever; there must have been a first cause and that first cause is God. This, in its most basic form, is what we call the cosmological argument for the existence of God. In this Chapter we examine three forms of the argument and try to unearth the pivotal questions on which the whole matter turns.
